Seasonal Closure of Major Roads
The Northville City Council has unanimously voted in favor of a resolution (D-2*) that will positively affect the city’s road system. The resolution calls for 982 feet of major roads to be decertified from public use during late April to early November, with intermittent closures for special events in the months between late April and early November. This segment is part of the 6.34 miles (9,006 ft) of certified Northville major roads and 24.92 miles of total Northville major and local roads. Consequently, N. Center (from Main to Dunlap) and East Main (from Center to Hutton) will switch from being permanently closed to traffic to being closed seasonally. Each council member expressed their support for the motion prior to its passing.
The City Council of Northville, Michigan proudly adopted a resolution at their meeting held on April 3, 2023 to decertify a portion of N. Center Street between Main Street and Dunlap Street, amounting to approximately 392 feet. This resolution was initiated by Council Member Barbara Moroski-Browne and supported by Council member Andrew Krenz.
The City Council was pleased to have received an overwhelming response from the public, with a total of 240 people in attendance, 80 in council chambers and 150 on Zoom. Despite the late hour, the meeting drew to a close after 5 1/2 hours, marking a momentous occasion for Northville.

The resolution made by the Northville City Council is sure to greatly improve the roads among the city of Northville and increase convenience measurably. This measure has citizens’ best interests at heart, providing access to the already existing roads through April 30th and increasing safety due to secure closures between late April and early November. It shows commitment and proactive approach by Northville City Council that all necessary steps are being taken to maintain efficient and smooth roads.- benefiting both residents and visitors alike once the streets reopen on November 1st, as this substantial portion of N. Center Street will free of traffic until April 30th again.
