Novi Softball is looking to reclaim back-to-back district titles, and they have the drive and determination to do so. With a new coach and a fresh mindset this season, the team is more motivated than ever. Despite Reganne Bennett’s injuries last season, the senior pitcher and the University of South Carolina commit remains determined to help Novi reach victory.
With their 21 wins, nine losses, and one tie, Bennett and Novi are on their way to becoming one of the strongest teams in the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 1 state tournament.
Bennett, a two-time first-team all-state selection in 2021 and 2022, is one of three team captains alongside Smith and junior pitcher Emma Prahin. This powerful pitching duo has been the driving force behind the team’s success. The team was further invigorated with the promotion of Catherine Marion to head coach this season. Marion brought renewed energy and determination to the team, setting them up for a strong showing in the state tournament.
The four seniors have set an example of hard work, camaraderie, and team spirit for the rest of the group. Their dedication to each other and the game has been instrumental in creating a positive and encouraging atmosphere, enabling Novi to strive for success.
With the veterans’ strong leadership and the younger players’ enthusiasm, the team has become a well-oiled machine that is unstoppable on the field.
Sophomores Mae Griffore, JoJo Curtiss, Avery Trombley, and Meagan Lowes have all returned to the varsity team for their second year. At the same time, freshmen Izzy Hanna and Katelyn Perrine have also made their mark this season. Despite any bumps in the road, the impressive progress of the young core has been undeniable.
Novi is primed to defend their district title, with their first game coming at 10 a.m. June 3 against Walled Lake Western at Novi High School. The winner of Walled Lake Northern versus Walled Lake Central will face the winner of Novi’s matchup at 2 p.m. later that day at Novi High School. With this talented and determined team, Novi is confident they can bring home another district championship.
Bennett and Prahin will be on the bump leading the way, and the team is ready to show everyone how far they can go.
The hard work and dedication of Novi Softball this season are paying off. With Bennett’s determination, the combined leadership and experience of their three captains, and the passionate direction of Coach Marion, the team looks to be on track to reclaim their championship earnings. This impressive shift in mindset is accounting for another successful district run this school year that has the potential to reach the state. With their drive and talent, the 2021 – 2022 Novi softball team has an excellent chance at achieving great things.
