Little Lambs Daycare offers full-day care for children of all ages in a nurturing and engaging environment. With age groups ranging from 8 weeks old to Kindergarten ready, each classroom has a primary caregiver dedicated to meeting the needs of the children, including feeding and tracking development. The daycare’s educational programming incorporates the research principles of the HighScope Curriculum and includes activities such as reading, art, music/movement, and play-based experiences. Little Lambs Daycare is committed to providing excellent care and attention to each child around the clock.
Building Trust and a Special Bond
At the school, they understand the importance of having a primary caregiver to meet the needs of the children in the preschool classrooms. This person plays a crucial role in helping children to feel secure and valued by providing reliable care and meeting their individual needs. By establishing this connection, they are able to build trust and a special bond between the primary caregiver and each child.
In the older classrooms, primary caregivers ensure that all activities are tailored to the development level of the children. Through assessments conducted bi-annually using HighScope COR developmental categories, they ensure that age-appropriate activities are provided for each child. Their curriculum encourages children to take part in activities that are suitable for their individual development level, through play and small group activities.
Finally, their outdoor space also serves as an extension of the classroom. Children are able to explore the outdoor space and equipment, designed specifically for active play. In this way, their primary caregivers can create a safe, nurturing environment where children can learn and grow.
Individualized Care and Emergent Curriculum
At the center, individualized care is given to every infant, based on their specific needs and routines. With a low class size of six children and a ratio of 1:3, each infant receives the attention they require and deserve. An emergent curriculum is emphasized, providing playful activities that teach to the “whole child”. Activities include reading books, singing familiar songs, playing peek-a-boo and pat-a-cake, and speaking to the children, all providing significant and stimulating learning experiences. Additionally, different activities throughout the day cater to each child’s interests and needs, such as art and sensory activities, music/movement, and reading. Most importantly, the center emphasizes nurturing and loving care from all adults to support each child’s needs.
Holistic Approach to Preparing for Kindergarten
This Pre-K classroom provides an intimate environment with only 10 children which creates a sense of family. It is designed to prepare the children for their transition into kindergarten the following school year by introducing them to various kindergarten concepts and refining the necessary skills. The curriculum is tailored to each individual, encompassing open play opportunities as well as activities that are both skill focused and based on their interests. This holistic approach ensures the children are nurtured and stimulated in a way that puts them on the best path for success.
